With the decline of the steel-making in southwestern Pennsylvania, Rivers of Steel is restoring, protecting and enhancing the land and water resources of the region. By building trails along riverfronts and old railroad corridors and constructing river landings, the Heritage Area is capitalizing on the wealth of natural resources this region offers residents and visitors.
Trail guide maps are available at the following websites:
The Historic Pump House is a trailhead of the Great Allegheny Passage which encompasses the Steel Valley Trail in the Mon Valley. Rivers of Steel welcomes cyclists to the property to enjoy bike-amentities such as restrooms in the nearby Water Tower, a beverage vending machine, bike racks, benches and a picnic table. Cyclists are welcome to park their vehicles near the water tower or facing the sidewalk towards Waterfront Drive. We just ask that the parking spaces in front of the Pump House be left available for Pump House visitors. For more cyclist-related information, contact Sherris Moreira at 412-423-8687 or smoreira@riversofsteel.com.
