This self-paced tour will take you through the whole steel-making process. Interpreters will be stationed throughout the site at major points of interest.
Designated a National Historic Landmark in 2006, the Carrie Furnaces were the heart and soul of U.S. Steel's Homestead Works.
Explore the Ore Yards where hundreds of tons of raw materials were off loaded from rail cars and barges to feed the blast furnaces that smelted iron 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. See the Car Dumper, the Stock House, the Blowing Engine House, the Hot Stoves (the "lungs of the blast furnace"), the Cast House, and a Torpedo Car.
Also includes the famous 45' x 35' "Deer Head" crafted entirely of recycled materials found on the site.
